Making the Change

s a corporation, Bank of America is defined by its people and relationships. Our associates, with their efforts to achieve common goals and to execute strategic plans, give the organization its substance. Together with our suppliers, partners and vendors, the work we do for clients and customers has an impact on all involved. Our common goal is that we can influence actions that make a positive difference in our world.

This report represents the substance of the contributions made by associates to implement and advance the Bank of America Environmental Commitment. We are proud of their work and of the recent progress we have made toward meeting the goals of our environmental commitment. Our external partners including environmental groups, other businesses, suppliers and government agencies, have joined us in that effort, creating a unified campaign that leverages Bank of America leadership to create change in our world.

In 2002, Bank of America determined that a position on Climate Change was in step with our adherence to CERES principles. Our Environmental Advisory Group, an internal board providing ongoing review of our environmental commitments, made several recommendations that were adopted by executive management. These are found in Section II of this report. Our Climate Change Position could not have been developed without the help of several partners, including World Resources Institute and CERES.

Our Environmental Commitment was formalized in 1999. As we pursue its ideals, we are proud of our progress to create a healthier sustainable environment. Our Commitment has become a catalyst for investments in the future of our associates, customers, shareholders and the communities we serve. We are proud to be citizens of a community of change.
